7 easy tips to repair your damaged hair

Who said it takes years to restore your damaged hair? And no, you don't have to do a big chop to make your hair healthy again. In this blog you will find out 7 ways how you can get your healthy hair back.

1. Use a bond repair treatment.

Hair is made of keratin, which is a protein. This protein consists of chemical bonds which hold your hair together. When you bring heat to your hair or bleach it, the bonds in your hair can break, which leads to split ends, dryness, and damage. A bond repair treatment can repair the structure in your hair and reverse damage.

Products like Olaplex n. 3 and K18 have been scientifically proven to repair the bonds.

Frequency: weekly or as needed.

2. Use a protein treatment.

Often when your hair is damaged your proteins in your hair are depleted. This will make your hair feel weak and limp. A protein treatment strengthens your hair and provides elasticity.

Frequency: once in 4-6 weeks.

The difference between a bond repair treatment and protein treatment is that a bond repair focuses on the internal structure of your hair, whereas a protein treatment focuses on the outer layer of your hair. Both are crucial, yet have different functions.

3. Switch to Mulberry silk.

Hair breakage, fairy knots, and split ends are often caused by rough pillowcases and hair ties. Materials like cotton and satin damage your hair and create 51% more friction than a Mulberry silk pillowcase.

This is why you should switch to silk. No, I am not talking about satin, but Mulberry silk. Satin is often portrayed as silk, but it is not the same. Satin polyester is made of plastic which makes your hair static and disrupts your hormones. On the contrary, Mulberry silk is a natural fabric that prevents damage and is totally safe for your hormones.

4. Brush with conditioner.

Your hair is at its most fragile state when it is wet. Especially when your hair is tangled, it is recommended to brush you hair with conditioner. When you brush your hair when it is dry, it can cause unnecessary breakage. As a curly girl it is advised to brush your hair when it is wet to prevent breakage. For straight hair girlies who brush their hair when it is dry I recommend the next tip.

5. Brush gently from the ends to the top.

When your brush your hair, the tangles are often found at the middle of your hair. Brushing from the top to the end of your hair causes breakage and thus, more damage.

Gently brush your hair from the ends to the roots. Work per section and focus on each hair strand instead of trying to brush your whole hair at once.

6. Eat protein rich foods.

We just learned that our hair is made of keratin, which consists protein. Therefore, eating protein rich foods like eggs, sardines, and steak will replenish the proteins in your hair which makes your hair stronger.

These foods also contain biotin which supports the production of keratin. In this, the quality of the food is highly important too. So, make sure you get free range eggs, sardines in water, and grass fed meat.

7. Double cleanse with shampoo.

Your scalp health determines your hair health. Most people think taking care of the ends of the hair makes your hair healthy, but that is not the case.

When you postpone your wash days and poorly wash your scalp, your hair follicles will get clogged. Clogged hair follicles will give you a soar scalp which leads to hair loss, dandruff, and folliculitis.

Washing your hair only once with shampoo will not get rid of all the excess oils and build up. Hence, double cleanse your hair with shampoo for a healthy scalp that will support your hair health.
