Our Story

An inspiring journey to find the beauty within.

Amber struggled with her curly hair since young. In the mornings, her mom would brush her hair, and she would be in tears as her hair got all knotted up in her sleep. With a wide-toothed comb, her mom gently tried to loosen up the knots in her hair to make it less painful.

Nonetheless, despite her gentle strokes, it would still hurt.

Frizzy and damaged hair

As she grew up, Amber's hair grew longer and thicker which was extremely difficult to manage. She started to use all kinds of products in the hope it would bring her messy hair into a masterpiece. As her hair was always frizzy, she would daily wear it in a ponytail or a bun to attempt to make it appear less unmanaged. Often to get rid of the frizz she would straighten her hair to get a break from all the frizziness.

Breakage, dryness, and hair loss followed because of all the harmful products she used on her hair and the tight hairstyles she would wear. 

Skin problems

On top of her hair problems, Amber started to get bad skin. This was detrimental to her as it totally destroyed her self-confidence. In the hope to fix her skin she started to use every single skin care product that would promise her to give her beautiful skin.

Unfortunately, all these promises were not fulfilled. Here is where she started looking into living healthier in the hope this would make a difference. 

A dream given by God

On September 12th in 2022, Amber received a dream which laid the foundations of Silk&Gentle. On the night of her birthday, Amber dreamt that she would help many women. Amber kept the dream in her heart and pondered on it for a long time. 

Discovering Mulberry silk

Through research she found out that cotton and satin polyester are way too harsh for our precious skins and hairs. Then she came across Mulberry silk. Mulberry silk was proven to improve skin issues and decrease the level of frizz one would normally get through rough materials like cotton.

Mulberry silk had heaps of benefits like it being hypoallergenic, regulating temperature, improving sleep, give less breakage, and give one's skin hydration. She immediately knew what problem she could solve on hair and skin issues: Mulberry silk!

She started to use a Mulberry silk pillowcase and she started to see her skin become calmer, glowier, and she would get less puffy skin. Even her eyelashes started to curl a little more than they usually would. She noticed that she would get way less frizz and she would get barely any knots. Her sleeps were better because of the softness of the silk and of the cool material. 

Forever good hair days!

After a while she was struggling with her satin bonnet too, because it would fall of her hair while sleeping and it wouldn't preserve her curls as the satin absorbed all the hydration and moisture in her hair. All her hard work in washing, styling, and blowdrying her hair the day before would be for nothing. She knew what the solution was: Mulberry silk.

From then on she also started to use a Mulberry silk bonnet to preserve her washdays and she always uses it to keep her curls pretty. 

Behind the name "Silk&Gentle"

Her aspiration in life is to do everything through the Spirit of God and inspiring women to understand the value God placed inside of them. The evidence of the Spirit of God working in someone's life is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, self-control, and kindness. 

In this, Amber's aspiration is to bring forth the gentleness of God to women and hence the name "Silk&Gentle". 

Healthy hair & skin that radiates from within

She realised after all these years that beauty starts within. She started to understand that beauty will fade away, but what matters more is the heart. Having a beautiful heart will radiate to a beauty that will last forever. From this journey she learned many things which inspired her to become a better person. Her aspiration is to teach people how to find that beauty within and bringing this out to the world to make this world a better place. 

God placed a vision inside of her heart which she obeyed to bring alive.

Here is where Silk&Gentle came to life.
